Over 450 people from 23 countries competed in the first annual BikeErg World Sprints, July 3-7, 2019. The 4000 meter race on the Concept2 BikeErg allows anyone, anywhere, to compete. We’re excited that so many people took a shot at their fastest 4k on the BikeErg for this inaugural event!

Modelled after the successful 1000 meter SkiErg World Sprints, the BikeErg World Sprints is a natural addition to our lineup of challenges and events. The repeatable and comparable data of the Concept2 Performance Monitor 5 (PM5) allows for times to be compared between BikeErgs around the world. The event is open to anyone with access to a BikeErg. Concept2 provides free prizes for the top three results in each age category.

The fastest times of the event went to Kirsten Kline (US) at 6:41.3 and Tom Sparkes (UK) with a 6:08.8.

Kirsten says, “When I get on that bike, it’s just me and the monitor. I’m able to drown out all of the chaos and noise in the world and focus on one thing, my paces. It helps keep me sober, it’s my quiet time and it’s my happy place. When you are putting in work on that bike all you can think about is the here and now. You have no time to worry about the past or the future. Your only thought and focus is on the task at hand—hitting target paces.”

In all, there were 294 men and 158 women who logged their time into the Online LogBook, with ages ranging from 9 to 78!
