When KC Colt joined the Concept2 Customer Service team in 2003, she says “it felt like coming home.” This isn’t just because her team-player attitude and love for people made her a fantastic fit. In fact, KC’s history in Vermont has been intertwined with the company since day one.
KC’s Concept2 story began while studying abroad, where she befriended Jan Bailey, who would become one of the first employees at the fledgling Concept2 in 1981. KC remembers fondly, “I was a guest at the first Concept2 holiday party and have enjoyed watching the company grow from the original barn with a bicycle-powered oar shaft roller to our current facility.”
Upon settling in Vermont, KC found lots of interesting and people-centric pursuits before joining Concept2 many years later. She put her B.A. in English with a K-12 teaching certification to use tutoring at Stowe Elementary School, managing a Vermont products store, working in restaurants and the Smugglers' Notch Real Estate office. Her background in figure skating led her to serve as president of the Stowe Skating Club, where she coached children and organized the annual Ice Show. “It had a great community focus,” she recalls, “everyone in Stowe came and it really meant a lot to the kids.”
KC’s love for people has drawn her to connect with Concept2’s customers at every opportunity. She manages the Million Meter Club, which sometimes entails corresponding with members by handwritten letters. “I get to see how people use and love our products, and I have gotten to know many of them well over the years. I’ve heard so many truly moving stories about people whose lives have changed and who have seen tremendous health improvements with our machines. Encouraging people towards their goals is one of my favorite parts of the job.” She also loves to work the Concept2 marketing tent at the Head of The Charles Regatta and CRASH-B events, where she hears amazing customer stories face to face.
KC’s hobbies include gardening, travel, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing, and rowing, which she first picked up 30 years ago thanks to her Concept2 friends. She is also quite famous for her baking, thanks to her tradition of bringing a treat to each weekly Customer Service meeting.
KC’s adventurous and generous spirit has found a good home at Concept2. “I used to travel and explore, but now the world comes to me when I answer the phone,” she says. “Our customers are extraordinary.”
