Man on StrengthErg using ErgData

A new firmware update is available to all StrengthErg machines starting on Monday, October 6th. In response to users wishing to simplify the startup for casual sessions, warmup, or circuit training workouts, we've made a change!

Previously, when the StrengthErg first powered up, it always asked the user to perform three calibration reps and to choose the movement. This ensured that all reps would be accurate from the start, as well as making sure that the workout was stored correctly in ErgData.

However, we have recognized that some users might want to jump on the StrengthErg and start pushing or pulling without having to go through these calibration reps and set up process. This is especially common when the StrengthErg is being used as part of a circuit, either in a class setting as athletes rotate between stations, or for individuals who are switching back and forth between the StrengthErg and other exercises.

To help these users, we’ve now eliminated the need to do the 3-2-1 calibration reps and need to select movement type when using the StrengthErg when ‘Just Reps’ is selected. Now, when you connect ErgData, hop on the StrengthErg, and just start doing reps, your workout metrics will display immediately after your first rep if it is already powered up.

You will notice that the movement type will now display in ErgData and PM5 memory and as "unknown" for sessions done in the ‘Just Reps’ workout type as a movement was not selected. If you'd like to assign a movement type to your session, this can easily be done in ErgData or in the online logbook once the workout has been saved.

If you want to continue using the calibration for all your workouts or you want to track metrics with ErgData with minimal follow up work, simply set up a defined workout with Rep, Work, or Time targets. These structured workouts will continue to include calibration for maximum accuracy and the option to label the movement before you start.

The update will be available on the ErgData app starting on Monday, October 6th. If you don't already have the app, it can be downloaded for free on the iOS app store or the Google Play store. When you open ErgData and connect with your StrengthErg, you'll be notified that a firmware update is available. Tap on the StrengthErg ID, then tap on ‘More Info’ for instructions on how to proceed with the wireless firmware update.
