All world and national records must be:
All records (with the exception of the static indoor rower 2000 meters, see below) must meet at least one of the following requirements:
Note that a photo of the PM screen is not an acceptable form of verification unless the verification code is displayed on the screen as well.
Please contact us if you have broken a record and met the requirements outlined on this page. If you are unsure about the requirements, we strongly encourage you to contact us before any record attempt. Concept2 reserves the right to not accept a row as a record. In exceptional circumstances, you may be required to demonstrate your performance at an independent venue under observation.
All static indoor rower 2000 meter record times must be rowed at a Concept2 sanctioned indoor rowing event with witnesses present. Times for the 2000 meter distance done using a Dynamic or Slides do not need to be rowed at a sanctioned indoor rowing event, but they must be validated by one of the numbered requirements listed above.
Online race records for 2000 meters do not count unless they are approved beforehand by Concept2. If in doubt, please check with Concept2 by emailing [email protected].
The athlete must submit a video of the row to Concept2. This must be a single take that includes a close-up of the monitor before the start, a clear view of the athlete and erg throughout the race, and a close-up of the monitor after the finish.
Documentation to confirm age must be made available upon request.
Lightweights must be weighed in no earlier than two hours before their race, under independent supervision, on approved scales. Personal scales with family or friends as witness will not count. Weigh-in should satisfy the same level of scrutiny as at a venue race.
For para records, proof of sport category certification must come from an international (FISA) or a national governing body.
In addition to the above requirements, all adaptive records must also provide one of the following:
In accordance with regulations from on water events and indoor rowing championships around the world, lightweights must be weighed in no earlier than two hours before their race. Records from lightweights weighed prior to two hours before their row will not be recognized.
There is no lightweight category for adaptive records.
For ultra-distance records only, we recognize the following age categories: 19 & under, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, etc.
For all other records, we recognize the following age categories: 12 & under (no weight categories), 13–14 (no weight categories), 15-16 (no weight categories), 17-18, 19–29, 30–39, 40–49, etc. in both heavyweight and lightweight categories for men and women. For 2000 meters, age categories from 50 onward are split into five-year bands: e.g. 50–54, 55–59 etc.
If you think you have set a new record, please submit your result details to us using the Contact Us/Records email form.
There are additional requirements/guidelines for the following records:
Setting Up Your Monitor: For PM5 monitors with the latest firmware, you are able to set a distance of 100,000 meters. For PM3 and PM4s, or if you are not able to update the firmware on your PM5, you can use Variable Intervals. On the Main Menu, choose Select Workout > New Workout > Intervals: Variable. Set a single distance interval of 100,000 meters, with a rest interval of 0:00.
We recommend you take regular rests throughout; the flywheel can stop spinning before the target is reached; however, your final time must include the periods when the wheel is not spinning.
Setting Up Your Monitor: Use Variable Intervals. On the Main Menu, choose Select Workout > New Workout > Intervals: Variable. Set a single time interval of 24 hours, with a rest interval of 0:00.
You must row or ski within each hour of the 24 hours in order for the attempt to qualify as a 24 hour row/ski. We recommend you take regular rests throughout; the flywheel can stop spinning.
Setting Up Your Monitor: Use Variable Intervals. On the Main Menu, choose Select Workout > New Workout > Intervals: Variable. Set one distance interval of 900,000 meters and one distance interval of 100,000 meters with a rest interval of 0:00.
We recommend you take regular rests throughout the row/ski, and the flywheel can stop spinning before the target is reached; however, your final time must include the periods when the wheel is not spinning.
Setting Up Your Monitor: Use the Just Row/Just Ski function of your monitor. The PM3, PM4 and PM5 will count up to 50,000 before it flips back to 0.
You must row at least 50 minutes of every hour in order to achieve a “continuous” record row or ski. You are permitted to take up to 10 minutes of rest per hour. We recommend that you take regular rests throughout the workout, and the flywheel can stop spinning. Any rest time taken counts toward your elapsed time.
